Its not stupid. It is doing that so you will still have access to all the tracks so you can continue to edit them when you reload the file.

The kind of file you put on a cd or stream online only has 2 tracks (stereo).

it is a much smaller file because it does not have all the individual tracks. That's why you can't take a file off a CD and separate out all the individual instruments. It has been mixed down.

you don't want to share the saved project file. you want to export a wave, aiff, or mp3 and share that.
