Ok so for instance one of my friends on facebook joined an open group by himself so would it show in the group page that this guy joined the group 8 hours ago or will it show that he was added by XYZ person? I am kind of confused with this.

Yes, it will show in the group that XYX added the person and how long along when they joined.
