Good way to develop my html skills? - caleb_dre - 06-12-2014 07:49 AM

i've been learning html for a couple months now, and i know the basics but im not yet good enough to create the next facebook...my goal is to be able to create a decent static website. Does anyone have some ideas on how to develop my skills?

I don't think anyone would expect you to develop the next Facebook after two months of HTML experience! I was in a similar position a few years ago and found that a few things helped:
- Look at the designs of other websites and try to replicate them yourself, only Googling the things you really don't know
- Look for CSS tutorials
- Develop JavaScript skills - it is surprising what it can do
- Read up on HTML5, this is the future of HTML and adds a lot more new elements, it's probably worth finding some tutorials to build your skills early

If your goal is to develop a website such as facebook, I would also start reading up on PHP, MySQL and Javascript. PHP is a scripting language that functions to make web pages dynamic. MySQL is a language that deals with databases, and storing data, and Javascript is another scripting language that adds functionality to web pages. You cannot make the next facebook, google, youtube, etc., unless you get a firm knowledge of atleast one of these.

Join websites like Wikipedia,Bulbapedia or forums and learn to use and read html.
So practice, but don't expect to make the "next facebook"
