For becoming SEO what knowledge should one posses? I am from commerce background, and have good knowledge about internet and networking, so can i become SEO?

In order to become a SEO / SEO Specialist, you should have a vast knowledge regarding the major search engines nowadays. There are a lot of tutorials in Google, and other SEO Forums. You can check the official SEO Forums in the Philippines for tips and tricks regarding SEO, and other techniques to increase your page rank.

Hi MANU, I have a little knowledge about the Process of SEO. First of all you need to actually have technical knowledge of how search engine works - http://www.robotstxt.org/
Google uses a different scheme to scan, Yahoo different and MSN different.
You need to focus on how Static Sites / Dynamic sites are scanned by Search Engines and then Modify accordingly.
A simple example would be ... Static Sites are something like : http://www.mysite.com/index.html
Dynamic Site: http://www.mysite.com/index.php?articleid=5042
Now the Search Engines tend to ignore whatever is there after "?" because that is being fetched from Database. So you need to use a URL Rewrite MOD so that instead of that thing above Search Engine reads it as .. http://www.mysite.com/index.php
Then there are Tables vs DIV tags in SEO. SE's prefer DIV than Tables and therefore sites built using DIV Tags have higher ranks.
Then ofcourse there is a strong role of KEYWORDS.
