I have a fairly old pc (2006) still looks good though! don't know if it has a wireless adapter installed, b sides a wireless adapter, with a usb connection, what else do I need for a wireless internet connection? I have no cable or internet connection!

All you really need is the wireless adapter, then your PC can connect to the internet. If you are referring to what you would need in your own home to connect, just call your local cable or phone company and ask for an internet connection, they will supply the wireless router that is needed or you can buy one of your own.
Summary:
For your laptop to connect, only an "adapter" is needed for wireless
For your laptop to connect to internet in your house you need a source of internet which would require that you have a connection coming in as well as a wireless router
