Copyright Infringement Notice...luck of the draw? - Scott - 06-12-2014 10:52 PM

Please note that I own this game legally so please don't flood this with "pirate scum" type comments.

--------------------------

So some friends and I decided we wanted to play GRAW 2 online MP style. We all own the game but a few of us don't have CD/DVD-ROM drives anymore so we decided to just download it and use our LEGIT online codes.

Well today I got an email from my ISP about infringement of copyright (not worried about this though as I own the game). Weird thing is that we all used the same torrent site and the same torrent yet none of them have received the same email.

So my question is...are these just random? I mean, if I got one, if the torrent has a tracker that tracks this torrent then wouldn't everyone who downloads it get a notice as well? Seems...weird and though I hate to say it, unfair, that I could potentially get in trouble for this though no one else would. Either way that's besides the point.

Just curious...can't seem to find anything related to this online.

Thanks!

Downloaders are tracked by the ISP, not by the torrent site, according to some list provided by legal representatives of the corporation which owns the copyright of some particular software. If your friends are served by the same ISP and downloaded from the same torrent, they were tracked too.
I can't answer your question why only you received a notification only guess. Maybe you've downloaded other material from torrent so you are "blacklisted" as a frecuent torrent user? Or maybe it is a random procedure.
