The Media is a Medium, it's not an actual party, it's a step in-between.

The Press, News Agencies, TV-stations, Radio-stations, Newspapers, Blogs, etc. are parties, and have social-influence, which they can use to control, and steer the population.

Depends on the media of course.

Your average tabloid and political media machine like Fox and New York Post are motivated by personal political alignments of the editors, who pass down edicts dictating the tone and direction of media pieces in favour of their own bias. These deplorable creatures appeal to those who have brains but don't use them - those primitives stirred by populist slogans and "emotional" pieces (primarily anger) for readership and revenue.

Then there's journalistic institutions who publish statistics and precedents to help you see the broader picture, to let you make up your own mind, and have actual NEWS. These people genuinely do investigative journalism, and go to extraordinary extents to reveal what the people SHOULD know, not what they WANT to know.

But why is the former more popular than the latter?

Because we, the readers, are idiots! We are easily swayed by emotion, numbers and general information bores your average viewer/reader, instead opinionated, biased comment pieces feel more engaging, like a soap opera instead of a wildlife commentary.

So nevermind about the corrupt and biased media (most, not all of them), it's fundamentally US that's generating their revenue by continuing to be sucked into their finely tuned traps.
