If you press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Enter key then right click Then press up & down and these red circle things will start flashing...... what is the point of this? Why did the facebook developers include this?

It's just something cool for people to discover.. it has no real purpose. Because of this, they're known as "easter eggs"

This particular one is the Konami Code, a cheat code that has appeared in many video games.

In the past several years, Konami (the gaming corporation) created a code that must be entered by entering: UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START. Entering the code perfectly will unlock a hack such as unlimited health or unlimited ammo, and so on so forth.

This "code" became a "meme" across the internet, cartoon, and other games that are too made by Konami.

Since Facebook was created by a human, the creator found out about this code and decided to implement it on to facebook. So now, implementing the code on Facebook (except you change START to ENTER) will activate a Lens Flare which is basically a cool effect that you get when typing or clicking.

Note that Firefox is required for best display of the lens flare. Otherwise, on browsers such as Internet Explorer 8, you will just see a bunch of red circles frozen to your monitor for 3 seconds.
