I forgot the source of this idea but I remember what the author said: try to search on eBay what's on sale and you may start to conceptualize some ideas from there. However, it can be a double-edged sword: an item on sale may mean there are a lot of people who want to buy it OR nobody wants to buy it. You have to look closely at the product reviews and take it from there.
