When you do not want to post your foto? - Caprice - 06-21-2014 12:04 AM

why is the only option avatar on yahoo answers the silhouette of a male? or maybe it's a woman with a man shaped face and short hair, what happened to the make yourself avatar, dress, hair background scenery etc?

It's just the default avatar, and it's meant to be gender neutral. Avatars like that are quite universal. Facebook has the same thing. I guess Yahoo couldn't be bothered to make a female looking one.

As for Yahoo! Avatars, it was discontinued on April 1, 2013. Unless you already have one saved to your computer, you cannot make any new ones or edit any current ones. Read more here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20130704084023/http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&y=PROD_ANSW&locale=en_US&id=SLN8404 This is a snapshot of a Yahoo Help Page, but it is somewhat out of date. There are no working links.

A common alternative to Y! Avatars that many Yahoo! Answers users is this avatar maker: http://laughingsquid.com/faceyourmanga-create-your-own-custom-avatar/

By the way, you're not obligated to use your real photo. If you want to use a photo off the Internet, see here:

The second section applies to your question.

AVATAR or Profile Picture
At this time you can not upload a picture from a mobile device, perhaps that will change in the future.
For now profile changes must be made from a computer.
Go here , http://profile.yahoo.com top center put the arrow on your avatar or !, click change picture.
From there you can upload a Picture from your computer or import a picture from facebook. When finished click submit on the next page. Sometimes it dose not automatically go back to,
http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity/edit/about and sometimes the image dose not automatically change, click submit at the bottom of the page and it will change.
********
Yahoo Answers did away with their Avatar Maker.
If you want a custom avatar go to one of these sites and make a custom avatar, save it to your computer and upload it as a picture.
