How to increase internet speed? - 631 - 06-22-2014 01:40 PM

I live in the country and I'm at the very outskirts of how far my internet provider (verizion) goes. How can I speed it up. I mainly want it faster for gaming and watching movies. Is it worth getting a new modem? Is there no fix? THANK YOU

if you want speed your only choice is to contact your isp for a faster connection

Buy more bandwidth Smile ... For gaming, you mainly need low latency, for videos and data movement/backups you need raw bandwidth even if the latency sucks.

Call Verizon support (lots of luck).

Even consider seeing if you can get a 'commercial connection'. It will be pricy, but they will get you back up and running first before the 'poor residential slobs' like most of us.

I suggest using testmy.net (set up an account so you can keep your results in their database) and run their 'timed test' with 'combined' (tests both up and download). It can tell you what you are really getting (better than flash tests or ones that can be 'fixed' by cache).

Make sure you have a good router and connection. Look into better router, cables, wifi access points, etc.

Just a few thoughts, best of luck.
