facebook doesnt have that option - it's not tumblr
maybe you mean your cover photo?

To Change it you go to your profile and scroll over your cover without clicking nothing and then it should say "Change Cover" And you click that then you can upload from your computer or phone and go to your pictures and click on it OR you can just choose from you current facebook Photos and then you Reposition it and you Save Changes!

Facebook profile background cannot be chaged (like on myspace etc.). You can only change the cover photo, on the top of your profile. To do that, open your profile and move your pointer on the cover photo. Then, "Change cover" button will appear. Click on it, and you can upload your new cover photo, or feel free to use some of your photos located in your facebook albums.
