Unfortunately it IS a lot of work. But there is an easy way with regards to blogging. To utilize it you need to be using Wordpress for your blog.

The guy who runs the place, Jeff Johnson, has all the information you need. And he offers a free download of his SEO optimized wordpress blog software along with instructional videos on how to install it from scratch as well as how to convert over your existing blog to Wordpress.
