Internet connection failed but IP address obtained Question? - Matt - 06-24-2014 03:52 AM

when i try to hook up my ps 3 to play online my Internet connection fails but IP address obtained pops up. what do i need to do to fix this problem?

all IP address obtained means is that DHCP is working on your router (your router is assigning your ps3 a private local IP address) your problem probably lies within your modem, your router can not get an outside connection to the internet. Check your cabling from the router to the modem

You are probably getting your IP address from your router. That means that your connection from your PS3 to your router is working fine. However, the fact that you cannot connect to online play means that something isn't working right past that point. It could be that you have a firewall in place on the router, or it could be that your ISP is doing something that might be blocking PS3 online play. It could also be that your internet connection (to your router) isn't working right.

If you have a cable or DSL modem, try unplugging the power cord on it, waiting a minute or so, and then plugging the power back in. Then do the same thing with your router. Then go back and try your PS3 again. If it continues to have problems, try contacting your internet service provider to see if they can spot any issues or if they are blocking this kind of service for some reason.
