How can i move up the rankings in google as a new self employed tradesman? Really struggling at the minute and need to find work quick. Down to one or two jobs a week at the minute and working nights to cover bills. Tried the usual, leaflets, business cards and van advertising but not getting much?

Joining Social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. Can increase your rankings if you link to your site from them. Also if your having trouble making money try different ways to make money such as Google Adsense or Clickbank!

Well you are new to this field. Do you have your own website? As to be on Google you need to have a website to promote your business. If you have you need to brush up your knowledge regarding Search Engine Optimisation for promoting your Google. Read online regarding SEO. Google distribute e-book about SEO you can download it and read the basics of SEO.
If you don't have try to hire a company to design and develop a small website for you. If you are unable to hire a company then you can download free website templates or use WordPress. If you have technical knowledge regarding hosting, domains, website setup then you can easily create a website for yourself. But if not you will require support from third party either your friend or a company.
In the meantime use top classifieds site like Craigslist and Gumtree to promote sell your business. Search for your local business classifieds and create a small company profile of about 200 words with brief about your company and services you offered. Regular post to various classifieds and you will get business for sure.
