No, but Facebook probably keeps record of that for customizing your "do you know this person" feed.

that newspaper is full of it. unless you tell them you looked for them, they wont know. even if you add them as a friend they wont know you looked at their page.

Not directly, as it's not an action that would be marked anywhere, but facebook might take it as a trigger for a "people you may know" appearance.
