I sent a few friends friend requests on facebook. When I visit their profile it says "Friend request sent" However, if they click 'not now' it would still say "Friend request sent" to me even if they have effectively ignored it.
How can I see if they have ignored it or have not been online yet to see it and respond?

You can't.
Just remove the request

you can't it means they have ignored it. if they except then it will come up otherwise they don't want to except it xx

You cannot see it, but if you cancel the request and send it again they might accept... usually my friends don't accept, because they are busy and then they lose it and can't find it...

If you want to get rid of timeline go to facebook.com/endtimeline
