Someone has set up a facebook profile using my sons name and photo,is it illegal? - chrissyh - 11-09-2012 08:53 AM

I have reported it to facebook as a fake profile but they havn't removed it yet.We can't access the information on the profile as we can't see it.Could we contact the Police because it could contain anything and it's in my sons name and has his photo.

Try using whatever the website has to offer first.

If it's truly your son's picture and name and provides information about YOUR son, you can go to the police. If there is personal information of your son, and slanderous comments you can go to the police. Employers check facebook pages, and if they see that and think that's your son, they may think otherwise about giving a job.

Allow atleast 48 hours for facebook to remove it, and then ring the police and obtain a Crime reference number if it still remains.

On facebook there should be a report user button on a person profile. Report it to facebook to try to get it removed.

Just supposing that person who set up the profile manages to con people in your sons name. Of course its illegal. Even if the Police can't help they will at least advise. Good luck.

My bet is a girl has done it. I would also bet that he knows who it is.
If not contacting Facebook should be enough, you may have to threaten in a nice way of course, if this doesn't work you can contact your local police dept's cyber crimes div.
