A friend on facebook contacted me and said that she thought she was getting junk mail from my hotmail account. It had my name in the subject line, but the email address started with "la" and then the rest was replaced with asterisks. I've never had an email address that started with "la" and haven't opened up any suspicious emails lately that could infect my computer. Does anyone know how I can look into this and fix it if it is being sent from my account?

Your computer has a botnet virus on it. Don't assume your anti virus software will detect and remove it.

If you don't recognize the email as yours, then you're not the one sending junk to your friends. That may be an online scam or something. The best thing to do is to inform your friends and all your contacts to tag the sender as spam.
I am wondering, though, how it got yours and your friend's contact details. Just to be sure, you can reset your hotmail's password. It happened to me years ago, my friends told me that they saw my YM account will go online at night and send suspicious messages. I did not heed at first but when more friends said the same thing, I reset my password. And everything went back normal.
