so if I dont comment, post, like, share, and have chat offline will my friends assume I haven't been on facebook? I havent done anything in the last sentence for about 2 months; does that mean my friends will not know i've been on facebook for those past 2 months?

Yea, if they go to ur profile there is a green dot next to ur name. Why would u want people to not know ur on Facebook tho?

Well yeah. If there are no posts on your wall and you keep the chat offline all the time and no one saw you online then I guess the most logical thing for them to think is:
1. You are never online since no one sees you beying so and there are no posts there
2. You just dont make posts and maybe come online at night time when no one would see you
3. They know what you are doing
4...Any other
