how has communitcation/public profiles ect.on social networks change how we act/live/interact with people? how it is different from back 10-30 years ago.

We get very addicted with these now a days. You might know the feeling of checking for notifications every few minutes right?
It has decreased productivity in our work life but has made us come closer/farther(depending on how you use it) to our friends.
