Facebook has extremely strict privacy rules, far more flexible and powerful than MySpace. You can set it so that only your friends can view the various parts of your profile individually. You can set it so that no one except your friends can see your profile picture. Or, you can set it so that everyone can see everything. Relationship status is grouped in with basic information so you can't block it without also blocking your sex, birthday, hometown, political views, and religious views, but you can block it from everyone but your friends. (You can exclude friends from viewing that information specifically but there currently is no way to make an "approved" list- people you friend will be able to see it unless you say they can't)
