Not permanently but sometimes its annoying when friends constantly send messages when you don't really want to talk.

YES! You can turn off chat and they'll NEVER KNOW... O_o LOL

Chat - Press Option ---> Advanced Settings ----> Turn on chat for all friends except...---> Put your friend name ----> Friend see you offline

Go under chat and click options then click Become offline or something like that.

Are you on facebook through pc or mobile. If on pc then click chat off option. If on mobile phone then also do this.

Ɣε§ Ooº°˚ ˚°º.you can change γ̲̣̣̥ợ̣̣̇̇̇Ìu̶̲̥̅̊Ñ̩̥̊ presence Α̲̅πϑ assume offline mode. W̶̲̥̅̊ђêΩ̴̩̩̩̥ you do that,they will see you as unavailable while you ɑ̣̣̇̇Ìr̶̲̥̅̊e̶̲̥̅̊ online.
