I've seen a lot of messages on twitter, which I've just joined, that have # at the beginning of them - what does that mean?

Recently people on Twitter using a sentence or message put the # sign after some reference to an occupation/skill etc. It means they are looking for work in that area or looking for work period. It's like a "tag"
