On facebook while i was trying to change the privacy settings, it says my networks and friends can see my profile. what does it mean when networks can see your profile?

if the networks can see your profile,then that means it is visible and people can comment on it.

On Facebook, click "Settings" (by your name at the top of the screen) and "Account Settings" then click on the "Networks" tab on the page that opens.
That'll show your networks. Common networks are people's high schools or colleges or employers.
If you belong to any networks, then anyone else belonging to the same network as you can see your full profile and see as much as your friends can.
