You may have followers or you may be following someone on Twitter

Followers is who follows you and follwing is who you follow

If you follow someone you get updates on there tweets, you are following that person.
If someone is following you they are getting updates on all your tweets, they are a follower.

Following is who your following and followers is the people that follow you

Followers are persons, following is a verb. I bet twitter also follow the language rules.
