I have been a facebook member since 2007 and just switched to timeline. I don't want people seeing my posts from years ago and I don't want to delete posts one by one. Can I hide a full year at once? Can I at least hide chunks at a time?

no, you cannot hide a whole year, and you cannot hide chunks
one by one is the only way
and so you know, people could see all those things even before you had timeline, it was just more difficult to do
