I've noticed it's quite hard to get them. Harder then twitter.

Tag your posts. That way people will come across things you've posted when they search for that keyword. You won't get followers if people don't find you.
Also, post more Mean Girls and Harry Potter stuff. Everyone on Tumblr loves that.
