lists are a bit like groups on Facebook. it's nothing that important, people just like having more lists 'cause it's a bigger number and you know... people like big numbers :L because I'm a belieber, potterhead, killjoy and parawhore, people might add me to lists called 'I Love Bieber', 'Potterheads', 'MCRmy' or 'Paramore holics!' or something. hope this helps at least a bit ;}

if u are following like around 1000 ppl on twitter, its almost impossible to read tweets of each one of them on your timeline.. so, if u have (for eg) 50 friends whose tweets u dont want to miss, u can 'list' them, which will help u to read their tweets on a separate timeline called the 'list'. likewise, u can form many such lists
