Facebook tailors your feed now to the people you interact with most. So really you just end up seeing the same 15 or so people every day, and then if you miss a day your social bubble actually gets smaller. This was an update they did a while ago. So if your friend is new, and you didn't comment on all their shit right away, they got relegated to the back and won't be in your feed.
There is probably some way to fix it. I thought I had, but I only see the same people all the time, so I obviously did not.
