I looked all over the group and there is no button for creating events. If you can't do this now, then wtf is the point of a group on FB?

Facebook have made yet more UNWANTED changes.
I've just found a simple work-around. Go to your group, and after the last / in the address-bar at the top of your browser, type in the word below.
events
So it reads like facebook.com/groups/GROUP-NAME/events
Hit the "Enter" key and you will be presented with a "Create Event" button :-)
