Because automation allows one to build twitter followings so easily, that alone might not be viewed as a terribly valuable asset, you probably have to utilize it as part of a larger affiliate marketing campaign, perhaps driving people to a blog of yours that contains the actual affiliate links.

You can always tweet about products for whom you are an affiliate and then get paid a commission if a purchaser for that product uses your affiliate link. This is just another form of affiliate marketing.
