You can try to log in through windows live and set your status to offline.

it is not possible without the permission of facebook.. you can create an application and get authorized from facebook to chat without logged in.. you can set your status as invisible that is possible in facebook.. change in your profile..

You can do this with the help of the new ROCKMELT web browser (The base platform of this browser is google chrome.. so, the other securities are good too)..

You must 'allow' the rockmelt app in facebook, before u download it for free..
First go to that website, and click on "connect for an invitation", and you will follow up then...
You will get an invitation into your email id then,, u download it, install it..

if you have messenger like msn or aim you can hook them up and when your on messenger you can also chat with your facebook friends
