Can someone create a fake facebook profile? - Nick K - 11-09-2012 10:49 AM

I heard a friend of mine was going to create a fictious person, totally made up, a facebook profile, and then while logged on act like they were really that person. He said it wasn't doing any harm to anyone by being another real person, and that he would make sure it would not hurt anyone emotionally or physically as a result of the profile. Is it okay for him to do this.
actually my friend is the only one who can use it.
what about people with split personalities? hmm.

Yes it's as easy as it gets. Try it yourself. I created a made up person to fill my mob on Mob Wars.

Well, in the Terms of Use on Facebook it states: you are not allowed to "provide any false personal information in your profile, create more than one profile, transfer your profile, create a profile for anyone other than yourself or create a page without authorization". So what your friend is proposing to do seems to violate several of those rules.

I don't think there is anything wrong with him at all.. Why should there be? Just because you want to have some fun pretending to be someone else, without hurting anyone or being a perv about it, then it's not doing anything wrong. You can't say that Facebook says you are only aloud to put 'personal REAL' details on your Facebook, you don't have to do anything like that! It's no big deal, your just making friends as something. It's not real life and anyone you make friends with on there isn't ACTUALLY your friend, so what's wrong with pretending to be someone else as you make friends with them? Smile

The Daily Mirror created a fake account to highlight internet safety issues. They asked 199 random people to add them as a friend, and over half accepted, despite having no idea who the perosn was.
