when you send a direct message to someone on twitter can they delete it from your in box. I have been sending and receiving direct messages and they are not in my in box or sent box, there was a prob with twitter could that have made this happen

YOU can delete it from your own inbox. Twitter was having some problems the other day so it's possible things got a little undone.
