Big, ugly, facebook ads and miscellaneous spam? - Kevin G - 11-09-2012 11:07 AM

Just starting today these big flashy ads have started popping up on my facebook. They're extremely annoying and I don't know why they are there or how to get rid of them. I've also noticed a new option for emoticons in my chat box that I do not think is a regular thing, and also on wikipedia a few words are highlighted blue like they link to other wikipedia pages, but when hovered over ads related to the highlighted word pop up. I feel like I probably downloaded one of those annoying spammy plugins along with some freeware I recently downloaded from Cnet, but I don't what it is or how to remove it. Any help would be greatly appreciated Smile

Install ad-block and all advertisements will disappear.

Try installing some "anti malware" software such as "Super AntiSpyware" or "MalwareBytes Antimalware", then running a scan, that should get rid of any dodgy software on your computer.

Thats whats known as adware, see here for more info: https://www.facebook.com/help/adware

BTW a great way to remove the normal ads on facebook is to install the FB Purity browser extension, its 100% safe & has lots of features for keeping your facebook clean: http://fbpurity.com
