as in you have a ton of common friends with them, but you don`t what them to see what goes on on your profile, when your common friends like or comment on your photos?

Yes you can. All you have to do is go onto Privacy Settings and click on "Manage Blocking" and then you can look up people on Facebook and block them.

Well first you can set your profile so that only friends can see it and not mutual friends in the settings. And when you post something you can also make it that only your friends can see it. In the update status menu you should see a button with two people on it. Press it and change it to friends only. Lastly if someone is constantly friending you you can decline and Facebook will ask you if you know them press no and they won't be able to send any more friend requests.
