i cant figure it out. Theres no option under privacy settings which say anything like 'allow others to send me a message'

People are able to message you even with your privacy set all the way up. There's no option on whether or not to allow messaging because the messaging is standard. I think the only thing you can do about messaging is block specific people from sending them to you.
