Does this mean after December 24th Facebook Timeline is going to switch us all over even if we don't want it to like they did with the banner photos a few months ago?

yup - that's right (other than maybe the exact date) - it will be this month tho

Right now it is optional.....however after the date you mentioned everyone will be switched over

No it's not going live for EVERYONE on December 24th. You're given a seven day trial before it goes live so maybe your 'compulsory' trial of seven day is ending on 24th

Although for the moment Facebook did not make a clear statement about the deployment of the upgrade in any of its official pages, and as a consequence there is a lot of false information going around, experienced users know that Facebook upgrades of this size are never optional.
