I randomly lose friends on facebook. Most of the "friends" are people i am not really that acquainted with, so i never really asked them personally. But some of them add me back, so that leaves me to the conclusion that they were just automatically deleted. I heard that this happens when you're not interacting with someone for a long time. Is this true?

no facebook shouldn't do that but sometimes deactiving account and then deactivating removes friend but that was a long bug ago

no, that's not true
what's happening is that you are adding people you dont actually know, facebook detects that those profiles are fake, and they then get deleted
stop adding people you dont actually know and you wont have this problem anymore

Unless they delete you and then decide to add you back.

It is not the case that you might have not used your account for a long time but deactivating and reactivating your facebook may lead to this.

No. Your friends do not automatically get deleted unless they Unfriend you or leave facebook (even they leave facebook you can still see them in your friend list with acquainted name and fb's default blue colour profile picture)

They probably deactivated or made a new account
