There is no other way I'm afraid. You just have to be patient and gain the followers that way.

The key to getting more followers on Twitter is finding other people who are interested in the things you are writing about, and following them, then replying to some of the things they say with relevant, helpful observations, or asking for clarification about what they are writing, or retweeting some of the their tweets.
Follow followers. They are more likely to follow you back.
