How do people get so many friends on Facebook? - Teresa J - 11-09-2012 11:56 AM

It's not unusual to see people have several hundred friends on Facebook. Does the average person have that many friends in real life? Are people more sociallable in today's world than in the past? What are your thoughts on this subject?

No, people are losers and just add randoms thinking having a large friend count is cool

Likely they collect friends for games or other reasons. I do know a number of my FB friends but there are some I've met because they've friended me through friends and I don't really interact too much with them but some are really nice to read so I've kept them.

I basically add anyone i have encountered in my highschool, i have about 200 friends.. and out of that 200 like 10 are close friends. Facebook is weird..

Speaking of my 200 friends, time to delete some of the whiny ones who complain about their lives!
HORRAY!

well mostly people on thier facebook are family then friends when you add it all up it can be a great amount of people plus people on your facebook can be people you just met but dont really talk to alot

They add people that they may not know because "they look cute/hot/sexy in their picture" - shallow
Or because they smiled at each other one day.
its really kind of ridiculous some of the reasons why someone will add a bunch of people.

Well, your best bet if you want as many Facebook "friends" is to just randomly friend friends of current friends. Many will accept even if they have never met you before, but since you have a mutual friend, they'll feel more comfortable accepting. So, if you don't mind having many fake friends you don't even care about, go ahead.

No, the average person does not have that many real-life friends. It's impossible. Many Facebook friends may be people someone knew long ago, only met once in life, or for all intensive purposes, does not speak to at all.

They go onto and "ADD ME" page and post multiple times. Also to keep their status updates interesting, some people use a bot that automatically adds funny/serious/religious/ect updates.

They add people they dont know or women put up "intriguing" profile pictures to get a lot of requests Tongue
