When someone request for a "friend" in facebook look for the notification at the upper left side of the browser.

When someone send you a friend request you find it after login your facebook account. At the top of your facebook account left icon indicate the friend request.

You cannot see when someone requests your friend (as a friend) on FaceBook.... but if you mean "when someone requests me, as a friend on FaceBook" you should see a red notice, above the icon that looks like two people (shoulders and up), in the upper left-hand corner of your screen...
Or as someone suggested, if you mean "when someone accepts my friend request, on FaceBook", you will see the same notice, but this time it will be over the globe icon (again, in the top left corner of your screen).
