So, I've heard that potential employers will look up a job-seeker on facebook to see what type of person they are, but how can they see anything anyway? Wouldn't they only be able to see the little profile photo and the name?

It depends on the account settings of the profile
If the profile is set as private, then they cant see the profile. Other settings can determine whetherr the display picture and name is seen as well in search

It depends on your privacy settings. If you have your profile as private where only friends in your list can see it, they won't. If you have it as public, people from network(s) you belong to, will be able to see it.
There is another option where the friends of the people you have on your friends list can see your profile too

Depending on your privacy settings, people in your networks and friends, only friends of friends and friends, or only friends can see your profile.

This is dependent on your privacy settings. So, it really depends on you whether you want it private or public.

like others have said on here it depends on your privacy setting, ever non-friend i've come accross I cannot see their profile.However you have to be careful because someone can look at you images even if they aren't on your frinds list if a fried of your and theirs comments on your photo's so just be wary of what kind of materal you put up on there. for example if I comment on my friends pic, My cousin can go look through all her pics because of it... it sucks i know!
