Basically it means: I can hide who I am friends with on Facebook from the public?

You can hide your friends from someone who isn't on your list....but once you add them, message them, or poke them they might be able to see them depending on your contact privacy settings. If you add them as friends, you can set them to only be able to see your "limited" profile...on your limited profile you can set what things you want those people on the limited profile list to see.
