I received an email from someone claiming that they had found my facebook profile and were going to send messages to all my friends. There was a link in the email that linked directly to my facebook page. How did this person get my facebook page just from my email address?

The answer you have entered wrong FB site, whenever you login look at the URL of the page, some scammers copy the FB front page but the URL are different
