what does that number sign mean? is it some sort of twitter thing? i see it on a lot pf status' and im confused! help!

It's a Twitter thing that people for some reason are now using on Facebook. The number sign is used to represent a trending topic on Twitter.

Its called a "hash tag," Its a twitter thing, it is a way for people to search for certain terms. For example if they did #cats, when people searched cats then their post would show up.

It's probably a trending topic (TT) on Twitter.
Twitter takes the certain words/topics that were used in the most tweets and puts it on a list called TT.
If people want other people to know that they are talking about that certain word/topic, they put that word/topic in their tweet, along with a # sign before it. When you put a # before a word on Twitter, the word will become a link and you can click on it to see all the other tweets with that word in them.
