I have 500+ friends on my facebook account, and only a small amount of friends use it.

Twitter is a BIG waste of time. Unless you're some groupie of a "star" of some sort and slavishly follow their every move and non-thought.
Some talk show hosts tweet to their listeners....but by and large its just a waste of time.
