I am receiving ads on Facebook from sites I have visited around the web? - MICK D - 11-09-2012 01:39 PM

Facebook states "We do not use cookies to create a profile of your browsing behavior on third-party sites or to show you ads". So why I am receiving ads on Facebook from websites that I have visited around the web! (I don't like their pages and have no connection with them with on Facebook). Are Facebook or their advertisers using Cookies to show me ads. If so, surely this is a violation of privacy.

what they say and what they do are not necessarily the same thing. use Firefox as your browser. go to firefox addons and get an app called ghostery which prevents google and other tracking agents from spying on you. you can also get an app called cookie mosnter and use it to quickly delete your cookies before logging into facebook. also, in firefox, open edit, then preferences, then go to privacy, and mark the check box that says "tell sites i do not want to be tracked".
