Cheer captain tips????? - Allison Trimmer - 11-09-2012 01:39 PM

Hello!
Okay, so I tried out my freshman year and landed a spot on both the basketball squad and the football squad. The coach picks two captains every season. Football season just ended, and I didn't get picked for captain. I really want to be picked for captain for basketball season.
I have already started looking at bows. I showed the girls a few different ones, and posted a few links on our facebook group page. They all love them, & have given me the money to order them. I've started putting together some hello cheer words, and have talked the ideas over with the squad. I've got together with some girls and we've also started on motions and routines.
Is there anything else I should be doing? Maybe so coach will see me more as captain material. Please help.

You have to come off as a leader on your team. Start by organizing team bonding activities like sleepovers or movie dates. This shows the coach your devotion to the team by making it a close team. Creating cheers/dances and teaching it to the team is definitely something that shows captain material. If you really want to impress your coach, organize fundraising. It would have to be something creative, as opposed to your average car wash. And of course, make sure you're doing a great job with your cheers, motions, cheers, etc. because that also gets factored in.
